As long as you're interested, then yes! Pole Fitness is beneficial for everyone regardless of age, sex, or weight. Your instructor will teach you the basic principles of the exercises and coach you thoroughly and enthusiastically through every new technique. Whether you're a beginner or have a fitness background, you can make it as easy or as challenging as you like.
Practicing Pole Fitness has both physical and mental benefits. You will develope more endurance, muscle tone, and flexibility, as well as improving your self-esteem and body. Unlike other tedious workouts, all the variations in dance and pole techniques + social elements in the classes will keep you interested and motivated. Pole Fitness may be high impact, but before you know it you'll posess skills you never thought you could have. And all of this whilst having fun!
Pole dancing is a form of entertainment, with the goal to amuse others. There is a misconception that Pole Fitness is associated with stripping, which definitely is not the case. At Pole Fitness (keyword being fitness) we focus on the true athetlic side of working with a pole. We strive for strength, not necessarily sexuality.
Pole Fitness is a unique combination between gogo-aerobics and pole techniques. The result is a high impact workout where ones strength and general endurance are trained intensively and effectively. During the execution of the pole techniques one trains a large number of muscles effectively, for example biceps, triceps, shoulders, abs, back, and many more muscles. Not only strength is trained, but also muscle endurance and coordination. On the basic level of the Pole Fitness training we practice techniques that only slightly strain the muscles. This way the muscles are developed and prepared for more advanced (and harder) techniques. All-in-all you will learn a piece of dance choreography and a number of pole techniques at your own level. Later you will learn to combine these.
That all depends on you (and of course the availability/schedule of the location where you take your classes). You can do it several times a week. We do however advise to schedule at least one day of rest between every two Pole Fitness lessons. Even though you'll start to see results with as little as one session a week, our clients have known to get addicted to this fun, varied workout, and even take up to two or three classes weekly. The visibile benefits will take your enthusiasm to a new level!
No, unfortunately none of our instructors are authorized or specialized in working with children. Due to the high impact nature of our workouts - from the dancing to the pole techniques - Pole Fitness® lessons are not suitable for children or young adolescents. Too much strain on not yet fully developed bones may cause permenant damage to the bone growth as a consequence. Therefore, children below the age of fifteen are advised against practicing intensive work outs such as Pole Fitness®. When in doubt regarding the physical condition of your son or daughter, or the ideal age to start with Pole Fitness, we advise you to consult your physician.
You are never too old to exercise, nor for Pole Fitness! During the classes every participant encounters a training at his or her own level. During the classes people of all ages train together, and encourage each other. No negative nancy's!
Yes, our poles can carry any man or woman of any weight. Our poles have been developed specifically for this high impact workout and can handle a lot. Weight does not matter when it comes to the stability of the pole. What does matter however, is the way of installing a pole, especially at home. That is why it is important to place and secure the pole in the correct manner and to routinely check whether the pole is still properly secured before you use it.
Whilst it is possible to injure yourself within any sport (or just existing as a human), at Pole Fitness we try to minimalize the possibility of injury by applying a carefully balanced program. At the basic level of Pole Fitness training, the musles are only lightly strained. This way muscle strength is built gradually and coordination will improve. After the basic level is properly covered, techniques that require more strength and experience will be introduced.
Seek medical advice from your doctor when in doubt about whether or not you can join Pole Fitness lessons. If you are seeing a physiotherapist, he or she can inform you on the pro's and con's regarding the workout and whether you should persue further. For more information regarding Pole Fitness exercises, you can refer your doctor or physiotherapist to our website www.polefitness.com.
No, that is not necessary. Through Pole Fitness lessons, your power will be built up gradually. The workout itself is a form of strength training. In general you can say that Pole Fitness not only improves your fitness and flexibility, but also builds your muscles.
No, definitely not. Pole Fitness is an extremely good workout to tone and strengthen the arms. Your arms may get stronger, but it wont turn you into a body builder!
Although the lessons are followed by a variety of men and women of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities, we have noticed that the average age of the participants is 33 years, and predominantly female. However, the workout is accessible for anyone and everyone!
Pole Fitness is for both men and women. A seperate program is developed especially for both sexes to suit muscle growth and strength.
You can wear regular fitness clothing. However too much clothing may impede you from properly executing some of the exercises. We advise the more advanced Pole Fitness participants to wear tight-fitting shorts and have your arms exposed. This enables you to have more grip whislt executing certain techniques in the pole - especially ones where you must clamp the pole between your legs or under your arms.
No, it is not necessary to own a fitness pole to take classes. Pole Fitness is taught predominantly at gyms and dance schools where several fitness poles are available. However, advancing and learning pole techniques is a lot faster and easier when you have a fitness pole at home to practice on.
Most important is that you wear comfortable fitness clothing so that your can move around easily. For clothing inspiration you can check our webshop, where we offer several shorts and tops that enable you to have more grip in the pole. It is also very useful to have a bottle of water and a snack with you. Because of the intensity of the exercises you burn many calories which may make you thirsty or hungry. And of course it is useful to bring a towel, to dry yourself or to dry the pole.
We advise to not use gels or lotions during or before a lesson, because those reduce your grip on the pole. Moreover, your fellow students who will use the pole later that day cannot use it properly then. To increase your grip on the pole, we offer several tools in our webshop, like gloves and (liquid) chalks.
With sweaty hands it can be hard to spin or grip the pole properly. Although you can use several tricks to get better grip, we advise you to use the Pole Fitness gloves or one of the various chalks we offer. These are ideal products to help increase your grip.

That is completely personal preference. Some Pole Fitness students prefer taking off their rings, while others wear them because they don't bother them during the exercises. Because the workouts also involves pole techniques, it is probably better to take off bracelets, necklaces, and earrings before the lesson.
Pole Fitness lessons are taught exclusively in group fitness classes in gyms and/or dance schools, by licensed Pole Fitness instructors. With the ‘locator’ on our website you can find all locations where all classes are taught.
During a Pole Fitness class students will train in small groups, depending on the gym or dance school that you're attending. Every class is guided by an experienced Pole Fitness instructor. For optimal results we try to keep it 4-5 students per pole. If there are too little participants on one pole, there may be a higher risk for injuries due to overstraining. Of course more advanced studends will be able to handle more strain in a smaller group.

Pole Fitness classes are exclusively taught as group lessons in gyms or dance schools by licensed Pole Fitness instructors. If an instructor is not on the list, she probably does not have a license. Pole Fitness only gives licenses to instructors who successfully completed an instructor training. So, if someone is not on our list of instructors, she either did not apply for a license or did not meet our quality requirements.
If you let us know here who it is about, than we will have a look for you whether she is licensed.
